413,672. Soldering leading-in wires to electric lamps &c. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Rippl, F. J. ; 16,002, Neladale Avenue, East Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A.) Dec. 19, 1932, No. 36024. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1931. Addition to 381,031. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] In soldering the lead wires to the bases of electric-incandescent lamps and the like by inserting solder in the form of a rivet into an aperture in the base and heating so as to unite the lead wire to the base as described in the parent Specification ; the rivet has a shank portion shaped to be more readily fusible than the head portion, so that the head of the rivet is prevented from becoming deformed during the fusing process. The solder rivet 130 is formed with a hollow shank having tapering walls which is melted by gas flames so as to unite the lead wire 131 to the eyelet 72 in the base, the head portion being kept cool by the nozzle 117. The gas flame is preferably deflected by a jet of air before the nozzle is raised, the air cooling the nozzle and also the head after the nozzle is raised. The rivet is shaped by the plunger 102 described in the parent Specification. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the machine of the parent Specification. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
