412,875. Cutting sheet material. PRAKTISCHE MASCHINEN GES., 55, Waldemarstrasse, Berlin. Jan. 22, 1934, No. 2214. Convention date, Jan. 28, 1933. [Class 31 (i).] A circular knife running on a hard track w and mounted on a carriage e is used to sever sheet material such as paper, cardboard, woven fabric, and celluloid, the device being provided with screw clamps u for attachment to a bench. Rollers k on the carriage e engage a tubular guide bar h and permit the knife to be raised from its track. Two pivoted levers o, slotted in the path of the knife, are pressed on to the paper by springs p and are adapted for simultaneous engagement or disengagement of the paper automatically on the arrival of the carriage at either end of its travel, when one of a pair of rollers r mounted on the carriage e operates the outer arm of one lever o, which is interconnected to the outer arm of the other lever o by projecting arms t on a rod s mounted in the tubular bar h. A handle m is used to operate the knife carriage. In a modification, the carriage travels on grooved wheels k<1> along a clamping bar o<1> extending the whole width of the sheet, and a roller on the knife axle assists the rotation of the knife l<1>. Each end of the clamping bar is pivoted to a double-armed lever t<1>, to which the clamping springs are attached, and the bar may be held off the paper by a pawl z<1> which engages a catch r<1>. Another bar may be arranged over the roller on the knife axle, or a wire stretched across the machine to retain the carriage on the clamping bar ; or a ball or roller on the carriage may be adapted to engage in a channel in the bar.
