Abstract

412,715. Electric signalling and remote-control systems. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd., Caxton House, Tothill Street, London, DOUGLAS, C. J. B., Larchwood, Beech Dell, Farnborough, Kent, and HUMPHRIES, H. E., 61, Rochester Way, Blackheath, London. March 22, 1933, No. 8647. Addition to 362,485. [Class 40 (i).] In the system described in the parent Specification, when a metering unit is selected impulses are sent from the remote station to the control station which set apparatus to indicate on a lamp panel the station selected and the unit at that station, connection of the unit to the signalling lines being dependent on the receipt of a further signal from the control station. The Figures show only that part of the apparatus affected by the present invention. When a meter unit has been selected, relay BKA (not shown) operates and relays BM, H and J pull up. Relay A is also energized over du4 so that a loop exists over the input line and as3 over which K and B energize. Relay G pulls up, C operates over as1, bs1 and locks to c1 and slow relay D energizes. Relay J completes the circuit for relays Y and Z and these interact. Magnet MSM is operated from y2 and steps wipers ms1-ms4 to position 2. Magnet CSM is now stepped from y2 into position 5 when both CSM and MSM are energized stepping their wipers to positions 6 and 3 respectively. The connection to line over ms4 being thus open impulses are now transmitted by z2 to the control station whilst CSM is stepped by y2. Wiper ms3 in position 3 marks a contact in cs2 over mw appropriate to the substation and when cs2 reaches this contact, MSM is again operated to step its wipers to position 4 in which impulsing to the main station is stopped by ms4. Relay I now interacts with CSM and wipers cs1-3 are stepped to their home positions. On the energization of Y, after wipers cs1-3 have been homed, CSM and MSM are energized by y2 and wipers ms 1-4 are moved to position 5. Magnet CSM is now stepped by y2 into position 5 where MSM is again energized to step the switch into position 6. The input line is opened over ms4 so that z2 is again operative to send impulses to the control station, magnet CSM being meanwhile stepped by y2. When wiper cs3 reaches the contact of the selected meter unit marked over BMM(D) as described in the parent Specification, L energizes and MSM is stepped to again short out z2 and stop impulse transmission. Magnet CSM continues stepping, L releases and wipers cs1-3 are homed by interaction between CSM and I. In this position wipers ms 1-4 are stepped to position 8. At the control station the first impulse train is repeated by relay B to magnet ASM and wipers as 1-4 are stepped to the station identification position. When the first inter-train pause occurs D releases, E energizes and locks and D pulls up. The second impulse train is thus diverted from ASM to BSM and wipers bs 1-3 are stepped to the unit identification position. When the second impulse train terminates, D releases and lamps on the panel MDB are illuminated over as2 and bs2 and 3 to indicate the sub-station selected (on lamps SL) and the unit at that sub-station (on lamps OL). If this reading is correct the operator operates key ERK, and F energizes and locks over F(ii). E releases to extinguish the lamps and wipers as 1-4 are stepped to their penultimate positions by interaction between ASM and G. The loop over the input line is opened whilst wipers as3 pass over positions 19 and 20 and again in positions 23 and 24 so that two impulses pass to the sub-station to which relay K responds. Relay K passes the impulses to magnet MSM which steps wipers ms 1-4 from position 8 to position 10 where M energizes in series with CSM, magnet CSM not operating. Magnet MSM is now stepped by y2 over ms3 into its penultimate position where L energizes and, as M is up, interaction between Y and Z stops. Relay H releases to open the input line and the selected relay FB1-20 is energized over l1 to connect the meter apparatus to the input line. At the control station A releases when the input line is opened, its winding A(I) being now shorted over as4 and the input line is connected over wires dm to the selected responding equipment. The apparatus is released as described in the parent Specification by the disconnection of positive from ART(A) and du4. F is de-energized, B falls away, ASM steps wipers as to normal and C releases. Relay G interacts with BSM to home wipers bs. At the substation BKA (not shown) is released, BM and J fall away and wipers ms are homed followed by the release of M and L. A system in which a single switch only is provided at the substation is also described.
