Abstract

411,923. Spinning means for tops used in games. CLEATON, R. E., 10, Prince of Wales Terrace, Kensington, London. Aug. 31, 1933, No. 24211. Convention date, Sept. 6, 1932. [Classes 132 (ii) and 132 (iii).] A trigger top and game apparatus comprises a top, a stock with bearings for the top and recesses in which the top can spin, an elastic band attached to the stock for spinning the top and a trigger device for retaining the top. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the top a rests in V-shaped bearings f and has a pin p engaging with a hole o in an elastic band m secured at one end in the slot n of the stock e. The top has a number of apertures k with which can engage a trigger passing through a board g and having a finger ring for releasing the top. The spinning top is caught in one of the cups or recesses h. The stock e may be provided with a handle. In the modified construction shown in Fig. 5, the stock e is extended at r to form a tray and is provided with a rim s and a bearing t for the spinning point d of the top. A member u is provided on the stock e having two cupped surfaces w in which the top can spin when caught. The top may be formed with channels x and reeds y for humming. A ball for a tremolo effect or some form of whistle may be provided. The top also may have a weight or weights attached to improve the balance of the top or increase its momentum. In a modification, the spinning top is dropped on to a board representing a golf course or a football or other field and the top can be used for driving a coin or disc placed on the board into a hole or goal by tilting the board. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 the pin p is hooked at the end ; the top may be used in conjunction with discs, sheets or plates which may be removably or otherwise attached to the top and may be coloured and formed to emit a note during their revolution; the spinning point d of the top may be screwed for insertion into the body of the top ; and the top may be thrown from one person to another, each having a spinning apparatus. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
