Abstract
411,445. Making wheels. PUGH, J. V., HACK, G. L., LINNETT, A. J., and RUDGEWHITWORTH, Ltd., Crow Lane, Coventry. Dec. 5, 1932, No. 34474. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] In detachable wheels having serrations on the detachable and permanent hubs which interengage directly or through an intermediate member such as a brake-drum, the serrations are formed on one or more of the parts by indenting the metal on one surface whilst the other surface is held, against distortion, in a die. Fig. 2 shows one form in which the detachable and permanent hubs a, b have interengaging serrations f, g formed on stepped coned surfaces i, d-h, c. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the coned regions d, c of the hubs are serrated to mesh with the boss l of a brakedrum k as described in Specification 265,280, [Class 103 (i)]. Preferably, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5 the crests of the serrations are rounded to ensure driving-engagement of the parts. Forging-punches.-The serrations may be formed by a frusto-conical tool having axial tapering projections with sharp or angled crests.
