Abstract

411,017. End - handles. HESSMERT, A., Br³gge, Westphalia, Germany. Oct. 11, 1933, No. 28020. Convention date, May 13. [Class 61 (i).] Hand grips for cycle handle-bars, hand-levers, &c. are provided internally with integral ribs running mainly longitudinally of the grip, which ribs, when the grip is forced on to the handle-bar or other carrier, effect a secure connection by causing a deformation either of the grip or the carrier. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a grip made of a rigid mouldable material, such as that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Bakelite," is provided with internal longitudinal ribs 1, which, when the grip is forced on a handle-bar &c., effect a firm attachment by slight deformation of the bar. The ribs 1 are discontinued at 2 to facilitate the engagement of the inner end of the grip with the bar. In the base of the grip is a capsule 3 provided with spring tongues 4 to engage inside the end of the handle-bar. The grip may be provided with external ribs 5, and with a metal sealing-ring at the inner end. In modifications, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), the capsule 3 is replaced by an inverted spring cup. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the holding-means in the base of the grip consists of a boss 6 with external longitudinal ribs to engage the inside of the handle-bar. In a modification, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the boss has longitudinally-tapered ribs adapted to be forced into the handle-bar. In a further form, Fig. 9 (not shown), the grip varies in thickness around its circumference so as to have a non-circular bore, the thicker parts constituting the internal longitudinal ribs.
