Abstract
410,527. Road signals for controlling traffic; counting railway vehicles. AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Strowger Works, and WOODHEAD, H. S., 23, Watergate Lane, Woolton, both in Liverpool. Nov. 24, 1932, No. 33284. [Class 118 (ii).] The passage of a vehicle is detected or counted by its effect on a balanced magnetic circuit. The detector comprises a loop A of copper bar, fed with alternating current from transformer D, and two loops B and C of copper bar connected in series in opposition and connected to an amplifier over transformer E. Normally the currents in B and C are equal but of opposite phase so that no current flows to the amplifier. When a vehicle passes, the magnetic balance is disturbed and current passes through E to controlling or counting mechanism. The two coils B and C may be mounted at an angle to A or may be replaced by a single coil mounted at right angles to A.
