410,226. Totalizators. ERICSSON TELEPHONES, Ltd., 67, Kingsway, London, and LIMB, F., Ericsson Telephone Works, Beeston, Nottingham. Dec. 1, 1932, No. 33964. Drawings to Specification. [Class 106 (i).] In an electric totalizator adapted to deal with " double " and " forecast " bets, tickets for either class of bet may be issued by a single ticket-issuing machine. The invention is described with reference to the equipment described in Specification 403,177 wherein the access equipment to a competitor's registering apparatus comprises a pair of relays appropriated to "win" and " place " bets, the access equipment being selected by a competitors' selecting switch, and one or other bet relay by a "win" or "place" key. In the prior Specification the competitor's relays are connected to the selecting equipment over "start" relay contacts in order that the circuits of access equipments corresponding to the competitors in a race may be prepared at the commencement of betting. In the present system the "win" and " place " relays in access equipments are appropriated to the various "double" contingencies. The contacts of the " start " relays individual to the various " double " contingencies are included in the register circuits instead of the access relay circuits. "Start" relays are provided for both " doubles " and "forecast" betting so that operation of the appropriate " start " relays prepares the circuits of the corresponding " doubles " and " forecast registers. Assuming it is desired to make a " forecast " bet, the corresponding access equipment is selected and the appropriate relay in the access pair is operated to cause operation of the appropriate register. Similar operations take place to effect operation of a register upon operation of the other access relay when making a " doubles " bet. Upon the registration of a bet, a ticketissuing signal is transmitted back to the machine to cause printing and issuance of a single ticket. Different "stake" values may be arranged for by providing the necessary denominational registers which are connected up through extra contacts on the "start" relays. If a bet is made incorrectly on a non- runner, a lamp at the ticket issuing machine is operated over the contacts of the "start" relay corresponding to the non-runner. The ticket issuing machine is adapted to deal with both classes of bets, viz., "doubles" and " forecast " and when " doubles " betting is restricted to a specified pair of events, the " event " number printing mechanism used in conjunction with " forecast " bets is rendered ineffective when the machine is set for " doubles " setting. When " doubles " betting is not confined to a specified pair of races, the printing arrangements are modified so that " doubles " betting as well as " forecast " betting is under the control of the race change key. A mechanical lock or stop may be provided for preventing the ticket issuing machine from being set to impossible combinations of runners or to double-event combinations and after such betting is discontinued.
