410,009. Administering medicaments by iontophoresis. DEUTSCH, D., 15A, Vilmos CzÓszÓr Ut, Budapest. Oct. 16, 1933, No. 28571. Convention date, Sept. 9. [Class 81 (ii).] In a device for introducing medicaments into the body by iontophoresis, a material impregnated with the medicament and with an electrolyte is combined with two electrodes so that the device constitutes a galvanic cell providing the necessary current. As shown in Fig. 1, the device comprises a zinc anode 1 and a carbon cathode 2 (which is applied to the body) separated by a layer 3 of filter-paper or like material impregnated with medicament and electrolyte. The external circuit of the cell is completed through the body, a layer 4 of material impregnated with electrolyte, and an additional electrode 6 in contact with the anode. Fig. 2 illustrates a modification in which the anode 7 and cathode 8 are in direct contact and the internal circuit of the cell is completed through the electrolyte-impregnated layers 9, 10, of which the former also contains the medicament, and the body. In this form the anode may overlap the back of the cathode. The layer 9 may be extended beyond the anode to form a bandage which may be wrapped around a limb to be treated, and it may be also impregnated with adhesive to act as a plaster.
