Abstract
409,861. Oil heating-stoves; burners. KNUDSEN, A., 43, Hovitzvej, Copenhagen. Feb. 6, 1933, No. 3559. [Classes 75 (i) and 126.] An undulated filament 18 mounted in a collar 16 of porcelain or other insulating material is heated electrically to ignite and to promote the evaporation of liquid fuel at a wick 11 adjustably mounted in a reservoir 7. In Fig. 1 the wick burner is shown heating a radiator comprising a water vessel 1 having its upper and lower compartments 2, 3 connected to heat-radiating elements 4, the combustion gases being conducted through a chamber 9 and spiral pipe 10 to a chimney or to a device 31 absorbing noxious gases and solid particles. Air for combustion enters partly through the inner wick tube 12 and partly through a passage 8 above the fuel reservoir. The electric circuit to the filament 18 is completed through a thermostat 21 projecting below the water level in the vessel 1 and a switch 24 which is interrupted by a float-operated rod 23 when the reservoir 1 needs to be refilled. If the water temperature rises to a predetermined limit the thermostat 21 cuts off the current to the filament 18 thereby considerably reducing the flame. If the water temperature falls below a predetermined limit owing to lack of fuel in the reservoir, the thermostat 21 closes the circuit of an electromagnet 28 and operates a lever 29 to close a damper 25 in the pipe 10 so that the burner flame is extinguished. In Fig. 3 the burner is shown applied to a cooking stove, a conical combustion chamber 42 being arranged above the fuel reservoir in a housing 43 carrying a grating 44 supporting the cooking vessel.
