Abstract

409,792. Reversible seats. PETERS & CO., Ltd., G. D., and WHITE, H. B., Windsor Works, Slough, Buckinghamshire. Nov. 17, 1932, No. 32566. [Class 52 (ii).] A reversible seat for vehicles has a supporting framework 28, 29, Fig. 2, fixed in such a position that one end of the seat 10 abuts against a wall of the vehicle, the seat proper being rotatably mounted on a pivot pin carried by an upper frame 12, 14, which is slidably mounted on the supporting framework, the seat being held against rotation when in position for use, and the upper frame being held against sliding movement during rotation of the seat. The seat 10, Fig. 3, is substantially rectangular and is mounted on an under frame comprising angle irons 12, 13, Figs. 3 and 4. Girders 15 are secured to the angle irons and to a plate 18, the latter being mounted on a revoluble restraining plate 19 by rivets and spacing washers 21. Below the plate 19 is mounted a pivot pin 24 which passes through an elongated slot 25 in a fixed table 26 which is mounted on a fixed framework 28. The seat is moved away from the wall 30 of the vehicle in order to permit it to be rotated, by means of a pedal 42 which actuates a slide 37 through which passes the lower end of the pin 24. Springs 38 return the slide and consequently the seat when the pedal is released. To retain the seat in either position of use, bolts 45 are mounted on the revolving under frame, and an arcuate guide rib 46 with a central aperture in which one of the bolts normally engages is mounted on the fixed frame 38. The restraining plate 19 has an arcuate edge 48 and two opposite radial slots 49, in one of which is normally located a pin 51 on the fixed table 26. This prevents rotation of the seat until the revolving framework has been moved laterally by depressing the pedal 42. The plate 19 is also formed with stops 52 which prevent rotation of the seat through an angle greater than 180‹. To relieve the pin 24 of the weight of the passengers, stops 53 are mounted on the revolving frame and bear normally on the fixed frame 28, engaging also in notches in bars 54.
