Abstract
409,577. Turbidometers. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.- (Kidde & Co., Inc., W. ; 140, Cedar Street, New York, U.S.A.) April 21, 1933, No. 26720. Divided on 406,648, under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 12, 1933. [Class 97 (iii).] An installation for detecting the presence of smoke or other suspended matter in fluids of the kind comprising a plurality of pipes through which fluid from respective protected areas is drawn continuously, comprises means in the pipe walls for permitting visual inspection of the fluid in the pipes, and a light-sensitive device for detecting the presence of smoke automatically. The smoke pipes 10 are connected to a chamber 12 in which a switch device 29 is rotated to connect them successively to the chamber 32 in which a selenium cell 41 is arranged. When smoke is present in any fluid stream, light from a source 39 is reflected on to the cell 41. Each pipe 10 is provided with a window 58 and with a reflector 59 arranged to reflect light from a source 61 down the pipe. Thus, smoke in any pipe 10 can be observed through the window 58. The selenium cell controls, through a thermionic valve, a relay which, when energized, closes an alarm circuit and an auxiliary battery circuit. Specification 406,648 is referred to.
