[Class 106 (i).] A machine of the kind having, for each control column, two hole reading brushes UB, LB or the equivalent which read two successive cards simultaneously and having an electromagnetic relay 30 in series with both brushes and controlling a pair of contacts 29, is characterised in that each relay 30, 38 has a holding coil 39. When the main coil 38 is energized it closes the usual control contacts 29 and also closes holding contacts 37 which energize the holding coil 39, the latter thereafter holding both contacts 29 and 37 closed. The armature of relay 30 closes contacts 29 and 37 by raising pins on the latter. The holding circuit is subsequently broken by cam contacts 42. In a modification, these contacts 42 are omitted and the holding circuit is broken at the correct time by the energization of a third, opposed winding on the relay which neutralizes the windings 38 and 39.
