Abstract
408,236. Electric signalling systems. ALLEN, A. R., 23, Berwick Avenue, Hayes, Middlesex. Sept. 29, 1932, No. 27044. [Class 40 (i).] In a system in which an armature is moved relative to two coils to vary the relative current flow in the coils and in parallelly connected coils at a receiver, the armature of the receiving coils comprises a rotatable hollow cylinder, the depth of which varies from a minimum to a maximum along its periphery so that the armature is rotated to a position depending on the relative strength of current in the receiving coils. The position of the transmitting coils relative to the signal-initiating element may be varied to enable the apparatus to be used over different ranges of movement and the pointer of the final indicator is moved by a cam carried by the rotatable armature to enable an evenly graduated scale to be used. A visual or audible alarm is operated when a maximum position is reached. The invention is described as applied to an apparatus for indicating the level or the specific gravity of a liquid. As shown in Fig. 1, the position of the float 1 varies in accordance with either the level or the specific gravity of the liquid in 2 and so alters the position of armature 6 relative to coils 8 and 9. The relative strength of current in coils 21, 22 is thus varied and the armature 23 takes up a position depending on the relative strength. The armature 23 comprises a hollow cylindrical member the depth of which varies from a minimum to a maximum as indicated in Fig. 2. Cam 24 is rotated with armature 23 and moves, through 29, the pointer 25 over a scale. The cam 24 is so cut as to enable the scale to be evenly graduated. The pointer carries a bridge - piece 26 which when the pointer reaches its end position, contacts with mercury cups 27 (Fig. 3) to close a visual or audible alarm. The screw 57 enables the coils 8, 9 to be moved relative to the float 1 to alter the range over which the float is operative.
