Abstract

407,098. Regulating compression. LIGHTFOOT REFRIGERATION CO., Ltd., and SINCLAIR, W., Bush House, Aldwych, London. Sept. 20, 1932, No. 26136. [Class 8 (i).] The output of compression refrigerating apparatus is automatically adjusted by temperature controlled means which control the clearance of the compressor. The clearance adjusting device may be that described in Specification 383,363. A reversible electric motor 12 drives an overhead shaft 14 operating the clearance adjusting devices 11. The motor circuit is opened and closed by thermostats 17, 18 in a water tank which is maintained between prescribed temperature limits by the refrigerating means ; the thermostats actuate switches 17<a>, 18a controlling solenoids 19, 20 to shift a rod 21 actuating switches which reverse the motor. A limiting switch comprising a movable contact 24 and a fixed contact 25 having insulated ends 25<a>, and a slipping clutch may be provided to avoid damage by overrunning. The clearance adjustment is mitigated by provision of a clockwork &c. contact drum 26 having tapered contacts 26<a> co-operating with an adjustable contact 28, the adjustment being such as to allow the compressor time during each contact period to influence the temperature of the tank. A switch 30 controlled by the oil pressure adjusts the compressors to full clearance when the oil pressure falls below a safe limit.
