Abstract

407,078. Educational appliances. CURLING, A., Abbey School, Deans Yard, Westminster. Sept. 12, 1932, No. 25317. [Class 146 (ii).] An educational appliance, particularly for use in teaching arithmetic, is constructed with two relatively-movable members one of which is provided with lateral projections for holding and the other is provided with an exposed rim or margin to facilitate adjustment; preferably the device comprises a housing b, provided with the lateral projections c, in which a disc a is pivoted, the disc being provided with numbers arranged in radial and circular series, and the housing being provided with slots r to expose a radial series of numbers on the disc which registers with another series arranged adjacent the slots on the housing. The housing is formed from two members shaped as shown and spaced apart by distance pieces arranged between the pairs of projections c, and the disc a is pivoted between them on a tubular rivet e or on a disc of material secured in position and acting as an additional spacer for the housing- members. The edge of the disc may be toothed to facilitate manipulation. The hole in the disc through which the pivot passes may be strengthened and the pivot may be removable to facilitate the substitution of other discs. A stop may be provided slidable in a slot in the disc and co-operating with the projections c to limit the rotation of the disc to 180‹. In place of the slots in the housing, reading wires or transparent windows may be provided.
