[Class 5 (ii).] A bird-cage, of the type in which the food is protected from contamination and from being thrown out of the cage by the bird, comprises a feed wall 3 which is adapted to carry one of more outside food troughs 6, said feed wall being located on the inside of an upwardly-projecting plate 23 integral with the base 2 of the cage and being supported at intervals by means 25, 27 connected with the base. The feed wall 3 may be a single unit permanently fixed in position or slidable in guides 5, or may be formed of a plurality of units each slidable in guides 5. The troughs 6 may be made in one piece with or soldered to the feed wall or may be suspended therefrom by rivets introduced into holes therein, by hooks engaging slots therein, or by hinges 11 and a catch 12, Fig. 7, or may rest in a basket 13 fixed thereto, Fig. 9 ; or a keyhole slot may be provided in the feed wall, the upper part of which slot serves as a feed opening, and the lower part of which receives a projection 15 on the trough 6, a spring bar 16, which may be connected to the feed wall, serving as a stop, Fig. 12. The feed opening may be provided with a protective ring. Wire rods 19, Figs. 9, 12 on the inside of the cage, may support inside food troughs 21. One or more units of the feed wall may be replaced by a slide or slides when inside troughs are in use. The supporting means 25 are in the form of bars 24 formed with sleeves gripping the lower frame wire 26 of the cage ; the intermediate supports 27 are in the form of wire bars.
