Abstract
404,004. Cleaning machinery pneumatically. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., RICKS, F., and JONES, C. T., Belgrave Road, Leicester. June 30, 1932, No. 18475. [Class 8 (ii).] A shoe-scouring machine comprises bottom scouring rolls 23, a Naumkeag 25, and a frustoconical abrasive tool 27, adjustable in height and having dust-collecting means adjustable with them. A blast nozzle 177 directs air along the tool 27, and may be turned out of the way for replacement of a cover to the tool &c. The tools are carried by a casting 5 pivotally supported on sleeves and held in the desired position by bolts 203 working in slots in the casting, and adjusted by a vertical screwed supporting rod 209. The bottom scouring rolls are carried in bearings on arms on the casting ; they are rotated by a belt from a stub shaft 11 driven by a belt from a bottom shaft 43 carrying fast and loose pulleys, and reciprocated by a lever 59 actuated by a cam slot on a part carried by the stub shaft 11. Ducts 123 secured to the casting are open to the rear of the rolls 23, and are flexibly connected to the opening of a fan 129. Dustcollecting pans 141 are secured to the ducts 123 below the rolls 23. The Naumkeag is supported from a projecting portion 85 on the casting, by an adjustable bracket 89 carrying its shaft, and is enclosed in a hinged hood open through the hollow support 85 and connecting passages to the fan. The conical tool 27 is carried at an angle with the bottom scouring rolls both in plan and elevation by standards 101, 103 on the casting. It is surrounded by a hood connected by a telescopic duct with the fan 129, and receives a longitudinal air blast from a duct 169 leading from a separate fresh air fan on the shaft 11. The end 117 of the duct 169 is pivotally mounted and can be rotated away from the tool by depression of a treadle 183 operating a chain 179 attached to the duct. A brush 195 enclosed in a suction hood removes any remaining dust.
