[Class 18.] In a case for a stick of cosmetic of the kind wherein the stick b is carried by a slide c which, through the medium of a plate or lever g, controls the movements of a cover f, the latter is pivoted to the lever g and, when opened, it first slides across the end of the case and then swivels until it rests against the side wall thereof. A knob d screwed into the slide c is pushed upwards when it is desired to project the stick for use, and during the first part of its movement, it abuts against a cam surface g<2> in the lever g and swings the latter from left to right about its pivot i and thus causes the cover to be removed. The knob runs in a slot in the case and also in a slot in a plate m also pivoting about the point i, the plate m normally obturating the slot in the case and being swung from left to right to uncover the slot when the knob d engages a cam surface n <1> in the plate. A spiral spring may be mounted on the pivot of the cover to hold the latter against the top edges or the side wall of the case. A spring presses the slide against the front of the case, and the slide is provided with a projection which engages under a ledge in an inner sleeve e and holds the slide in its lowered position. The lever g is held in contact with the knob d by means of a spring, or both the lever and the plate m are provided, as shown, with further cam surfaces engaged by the knob on its return movement to ensure that the cover is closed and the slot in the case is covered. The lever g is positioned between the sleeve e and the wall of the case and a similar lever also pivoted to the cover and to the point i is positioned on the opposite side of the case. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also a modification in which the cover is hinged to the case and a finger on the end of the lever g, Fig. 7 (cancelled), engages in a spiral groove k<1> in the hinge pin, and the cover is swung round its pivot as the lever g moves from left to right in the groove. The lever also serves to obturate the slot in the case. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
