Convention date, June 13, 1932. [Class 118 (i).] Visible and audible burglar or fire alarms 10, 6 housed in a casing 1 arranged outside a building are electrically operated when the casing lid 2 is allowed to fall open by the release of a lock 7 by an electro-magnet 8 actuated by a contact device, which may be a push-button, a floor or door contact, a photo-electric or thermal contact device. The lamp signal 10 may illuminate the word " police " or " alarm " on a partition. The lock 7 comprises a bolt 23 engaging a hook 9 and having a spring-encircled rod 25 which is inserted through a bow 24 connected to a rod 22. A spring 21 tends to open the bolt, the opening movement being allowed when the electro-magnet 8 is energized and its armature 15 releases a pivoted arm 14 connected to the bolt. The arm 14 then swings against a contact stop 16, interrupting the electro-magnet circuit and closing the signal circuit. For closed circuit working, the source of current is connected to terminals 17, 18 for operating the relay 5.
