Abstract

401,601. Protective cut-out arrangements. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC & MANUFACTURING CO., East Pittsburg, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Lenehan, B. E.; 18, Liberty Street, Bloomfield, New Jersey, U.S.A.) May 18, 1933, No. 14406. Convention date, May 25, 1932. [Class 38 (v).] Apparatus for extracting symmetrical phase-sequence voltage components from a three-phase system 1, 2, 3, comprises a lagging powerfactor impedance 14 and resistance 15, a reactance 16 and resistance 17, and an autotransformer 18 tapped in the percentages 40, 20, 40. The taps are connected through voltmeters 19, 20 with, respectively, the junction of 14, 15 and an adjustable tap in 17. The voltage across 15 is arranged to be 40 per cent of, and to lag by 60‹, the voltage between conductors 3, 1, and the tap in 17 is chosen so that the voltage between it and conductor 2 is 40 per cent of the voltage between conductors 2, 1 and lags it by 60‹. Meters 19, 20 then read, respectively, the negative and positive components. The Specification illustrates the invention by means of a vector diagram, Fig. 2 (not shown), and refers to protective and general control purposes. The taps may be any percentage below 50 per cent, but each meter must be connected to taps of equal value.
