Abstract
Cellulose esters or ethers, dyeing; printing.--Improved penetration of discharging agents into materials made of or containing cellulose esters or ethers is obtained with the aid of dior poly-alkylene glycols or ethers, esters or ether-esters thereof, the processes of Specifications 375,313 and 376,797 being disclaimed. As a modification the di- or poly-alkylene glycols or their derivatives may be replaced by the corresponding compounds in which an ether oxygen atom is replaced by an atom of sulphur. Specified compounds used are diand tri-ethylene glycols, di-glycerol, diethylene glycol monoacetate, the acetate of diethylene glycol monoethyl ether and thiodiglycol. The discharge preparations may additionally contain solvents, swelling agents or assistants such as ethyl lactate, urea, aliphatic alcohols, diacetone alcohol, diethyl or dibutyl tartrate or benzyl alcohol. Thickeners, such as gum arabic, British gum, gum tragacanth or cellulose ethers or esters, may be incorporated. Oxidizing discharge agents, such as chlorates, or reducing discharge agents, such as hydrosulphites, aldehyde or ketone sulphoxylates, stannous chloride or chlorothiocyanate may be employed and stannous discharge preparations may contain aminoanthraquinone dyes as described in Specification 351,457. Vat dyes, such as Ciba blue 2B, Ciba brown G, Ciba yellow G, Hydron blue R, Hydron orange R, Hydron orange RF, Hydron pink FF, Thio-indigo printing black K, Caledon gold orange G, Caledon brilliant purple RR or Caledon jade green, may be incorporated in the reducing discharges and the vat dyes may be present in unreduced form, for subsequent reduction during steaming, or as the leuco compounds or esterified leuco compounds. Sulphur dyes may also be incorporated. The following examples are specified. (1) A cellulose acetate fabric, dyed with benzene-azo-benzene-azo-phenol, is printed with an aqueous preparation containing gum thickening, stannous chloride, diethylene glycol, ethyl lactate, sodium thiocyanate, and acetic acid, and the print is dried, aged, washed, and dried to obtain a clear white discharge on a yellow ground. (2) A cellulose acetate woven fabric, dyed with p-aminobenzene-azo-dimethyl-aniline, diazotized on the fibre and developed with 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid, is printed with an aqueous preparation containing the dyestuff 4 - acetoxybenzene-azo - 1 - phenol - 3 - methyl-5-pyrazolone, gum arabic thickening, zinc formaldehydesulphoxylate, diethylene glycol and ethyl lactate, and the print is dried, steamed, washed, and dried to obtain a bright yellow print on a blue ground. Specification 373,653 also is referred to. The Provisional Specification includes also an example in which a mixed cotton-cellulose acetate fabric, dyed brown with a dischargeable dyestuff, is printed with an aqueous preparation containing the dyestuff. Thioindigo printing black K, British gum, potassium carbonate, formosul, and diethylene glycol, and the print is dried, aged, chromed, washed, soaped, washed, and dried to obtain a black pattern on a brown ground.
