Abstract

399,829. Bakers' ovens. VICARS, Ltd. T. & T. and CROSLAND, E. M., Earlestown, Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire. Jan. 8, 1932, No. 553. [Class 51 (ii).] In a multi-tier travelling oven for baking biscuits &c., provided with heating elements arranged in alternately similar sections throughout the length of the oven, the arrangement is such that the goods in the bottom tier receive continuously bottom heat, and in alternate sections, top heat, in intermediate tiers the goods receive alternately bottom and top heat, while in the upper tier the goods receive continuously top heat and, in alternate sections, bottom heat also. As shown, the heating elements, disposed in alternately similar sections A .. D consist of chambers 40 enclosing gas burners 8 and disposed above and below each of the flights 3a .. 3e of the conveyer 3, the chambers having their opposite horizontal walls 10, 11 formed respectively of sheet metal and refractory material, and being so arranged that, in the intermediate tiers, the chambers in one section are inverted with respect to those in the adjacent section or sections. The chambers forming the roof of the upper tier and those forming the floor of the bottom tier are uniformly arranged throughout the sections, the sheet metal walls being lowermost in the former case and uppermost in the latter. The sheet metal walls 10 may be either solid or perforated. The burners 8 are arranged in six groups, each controlled by a separate valve, and comprising firstly, the burners giving top heat in the intermediate tiers ; secondly, those giving bottom heat in the intermediate tiers ; thirdly, those giving continuous top heat in the upper tier ; fourthly, those giving continuous bottom heat in the lowermost tier; fifthly, those supplying bottom heat to the upper tier ; and sixthly, those supplying top heat to the bottom tier.
