[Class 6 (i).] A spiked roller for puncturing bowling and putting greens &c., comprises two end discs or transport wheels 2, circumferentially spaced rods or tubes 6 extending between the discs, and spikes 7 mounted on the rods or tubes so that they may oscillate with them while being carried round and may swing in a direction opposite to that of the rotation of the roller and penetrate and leave the ground in the direction of their length. The spikes operate when the roller travels in either direction, stops 8, 8a being provided to limit their swinging movements. The spikes on each tube are staggered relative to those on the other tubes. The tubes 6 may be removably mounted on the plain ends of studs or bolts 13, Fig. 6, adjustably secured in radial slots 12 in the discs or wheels 2. They may be provided with arms 17 to engage ribs 18 to limit the swing of the teeth. J-shaped gauge pieces 22, Fig. 11, may be furnished for accurately positioning the tubes 6. They have spaced notches 24 for engaging the rims 26 of the wheels 2. The spikes may be screwed into the tubes, and may be round or oval in cross-section, or knifeshaped. Handle-bars 27 are adjustably connected to side pieces 31 pivoted on the axle 4. The axle of a light sectional transport roller 34 is mounted in slots 32 in the side pieces 31. A front hauling bridle may be connected to lugs 37. The spiked roller may be supported above the ground by pivoted stands which may be swung up about the axle 4 for transport, being secured by spring clips. According to the Provisional Specification the spikes may be pivoted individually.
