Abstract
399,541. Temperature indicators for furnaces. JONES, E. P., Greenbank, Eaton Road, Chester. April 5, 1932, No. 9731. [Class 51 (ii).] In apparatus for indicating the temperature of the charge within a furnace of the kind comprising an indicating instrument D<1> arranged outside the furnace and connected by leads d<1> to a pyrometer or thermo-couple D which is disposed within an aperture b in the furnace hearth so as to come into actual contact with the charge piled thereon, the thermo-couple is mounted on a pivoted counterbalanced arm d so that it may yield in a downward direction should any of the charge material be piled directly on it. The base B of the furnace may, instead of being fixed as shown in Fig. 1, be in the form of a wheeled truck, the mounting for the thermo-couple being carried on the underside thereof. Fig. 3 shows the invention applied to a continuous tunnel furnace in which each truck B is fitted with a yieldably mounted thermo-couple D connected by leads g to a pivoted contact member G, the latter being adapted to engage a fixed contact H connected by leads h to the external indicating instrument D<1>.
