Abstract

399,531. Electromedical and massage apparatus. HAWKINS, E. G. S., 50, Sussex Square, Brighton. March 9, 1932, No. 7068. [Class 81 (ii).] In a massaging-device, the massaging member is in the form of a roller 1 wound with two sets of helices of wire 20 connected to a source of current by conductors extending into a handle. A converter or eliminator for connection to a mains suply, or as shown in Fig. 1, a medical coil and battery is accommodated in the handle, and the device is provided with a switch. In the embodiment shown, the handle is made of insulating material such as Bakelite (registered Trade Mark) or other phenol-formaldehyde product, and encloses a battery 3, one pole of which is connected to one of the wire helices by conducting strips 19, 17. The other pole 6 contacts with one end of the coil 7, the other end of which is connected through make-andbreak device 10 and switch 13, 16 to conductor strip 17. The other helix is connected to the coil by strips 18, 23. Electrical contact is effected by connecting one end of each helix to one of the brass bearing plates 21 which are recessed to receive projections 22 on strips 17, 18. The latter are resilient so that the roller is easily replaceable. Reference is made to soft rubber, glass, vulcanite, spherical and polygonal section rollers, and to a hand roller coated with rubber. One or more of these rollers may be disposed in the housing. A number of batteries which can be selectivelv or collectively brought into operation may be employed, and a variable resistance may be employed therewith. According to the Provisional Specification, the electrical contacts on the roller may be in the form of rings or studs, and the roller may be hollow and perforated for distributing cosmetics.
