Abstract

399,230. Automatic electromechanical regulators ; compression resistances. GLAYSHER,. E. A., 48, Havant Road, Walthamstow, London. Dec. 8, 1932, No. 5204. [Class 38 (iv).] Constant current is maintained in a constant voltage D.C. arc or like supply circuit by connecting a current regulating resistance a in series with the arc b and a motor f controlling the resistance a, across the arc so that the total resistance in the circuit is maintained constant. A contactor d in the arc circuit closes the circuit of the motor, of a shunt field winding h in series with a variable resistance j and of a compensating field coil n connected across a bridge the arms of which are formed by the arc b, the resistance a and two resistances k, m whose relative values are determined by the normal volt drop across the arc and the resistance a. The regulating resistance comprising carbon blocks a is varied by the direct centrifugal pressure on a member r of lever p pivoted at q on a member o on the shaft of the motor f the speed of which is responsive and the. voltage across the consuming device. The blocks a are provided with pins u disposed above their centre of gravity' and are carried thereby on insulated guide rods v running longitudinally on either side of the blocks. The blocks are thus maintained in the vertical position.
