Abstract

399,096. Automatic circuit-breakers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Casby, J. J. ; 559, Smithson Avenue, Lawrence Park, Erie, U.S.A.) Feb. 25, 1933, No. 5807. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1932. [Class 38 (v).] Magnetic blowouts:-A loosehandle circuitbreaker comprises an operating member 12 and contactcarrying member 13, which are independently pivoted at 15 and coupled together for closing and maintaining closed the breaker by a latch 14 pivoted to 13 at 16 and engaging under spring action 17 a roller 18 on the member 12. An opening spring 19 is placed between an abutment 22 for the member 12 and the movable contact 7, which is pivoted at 16 to the member 13. A roller 26 on the member 13 is engageable in the closed position by a holding latch 24, which is pivoted at 25 and carries an extension 29 which supports a tripping member 28, also pivoted at 26. The member 28 co-operates with the armature 11 of a series combined trip and blow-out magnet 8, and is arranged on overload to release both latches 24, 14 by means of, respectively, the extension 29 and a roller 30. Fig. 3 diagrammatically shows the closed position of the parts, in which the handle 12 is held against abutment 23. When the latches 24, 14 are deflected, the parts 12, 13 are uncoupled and the part 13 rotates clockwise, the contact 7 .wiping over the contact 6 until arrested by the part 13. Rotation of the latter causes the handle 12 to move clockwise by means of spring 21 and reset the latch 14, ready for reclosure, the latter being effected by counterclockwise rotation of handle 12 until the latch 24 re-engages the roller 26. If the contacts reclose on to an overload,. the parts are uncoupled at 14, 18, before the latch 24 is engaged, so that it is impossible to hold the breaker closed. The handle can also be rotated backwards to open the breaker by first disengaging 18 from 14 and then deflecting latch 24 to free the contacts.
