Abstract

398,677. Boot-making machines. BATA AKCIOVA SPOLECNOST, Zlin, Czecho-Slovakia. Nov. 19, 1932, No. 32753. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1931. [Class 17 (i).] Last - supports for hand work.-Relates to apparatus of the kind described in Specifications 392,084 and 392,095 wherein lasts adjustably mounted on carriages are moved from one working position to another along a track, and consists in mechanism for moving the carriages from one working position to another and effecting adjustment of the lasts at the different working positions by maltese cross or other means such as partially toothed gear wheels wherein locking means hold one mechanism stationary while the other is driven and a full and a partial rotation of the driving means produce a partial and a full rotation, respectively, of the driven means. An electric motor 5, Fig. 2, is geared to a worm wheel 9, Fig. 4, to which is bolted an arm 45 carrying a roll 47 at its end, an arc-shaped portion 43a at the side opposite and in the plane of the roll, and, below these members a partially toothed wheel 16 having opposite its toothed portion an arcshaped portion 21. The roll 47 co-operates with slots 48a in a member secured to a wheel 54 over which passes the conveyer chain to which the carriages are secured, the slotted member, between the slots, being shaped at 48b to co-operate with the arc-shaped portion 43. The teeth 16 mesh with teeth on a mutilated gear wheel 24 secured to a shaft 25 also carrying a plate formed with a slot 22a and an arcshaped nose 22c for engagement respectively with a pin 20 at one end of the teeth 16 and the portion 21. The shaft 25 is geared to the last adjusting means. In operation, as the worm 10 is driven, the roll 47 rotates the wheel 54 intermittently through 90 degrees, the wheel being then held stationary by the surface 48b. While it is thus held, the pin 20 rotates the shaft 25 to mesh the teeth 16, 24, the shaft 25 being thus turned just short of a complete rotation, which rotation is completed by the engagement of the curved surfaces 21, 22c as they contact to lock the shaft 25 prior to another partial turn of the wheel 54. The shaft 25 is geared to two shafts 41 supported along the sides of the conveyer track, the shafts 41 having, at each operating station, spiral gears 85, 86, Fig. 9, driving a shaft 84 to which is secured a sleeve 90 with a flange bored with ten spaced holes. The sleeve carries a pair of segmental gears 93 the hubs of which are bored with seven holes 94, Fig. 10, the three sets of holes providing for angular adjustment of the segments, three aligned holes being entered by a locking pin 91. The segments gear with spur wheels 108, 113 on the last carriages, the wheel 108 being secured to a shaft 123, Fig. 12, carrying a bevel wheel for rotating the last 131 about a normally vertical axis and the wheel 113 being secured to a sleeve 121 surrounding the shaft 123 for swinging the last about the shaft 123. Normally, the spur wheels are locked by spring plungers 107, Fig. 11, but as the gear segments commence to move, a cam surface 95, Fig. 10, retracts the plunger while the teeth of the segment and spur wheel are in engagement. To allow the last tooth of the segment to disengage after the plunger has re-locked the wheel, this tooth can yield against a spring 101. In a modification, the shaft 123 and surrounding sleeve each drive a bevel wheel for swinging the last to the new position.
