Abstract

Boot &c. soles are made by cutting rough blanks from tyre covers, enclosing them in a patterned mould, subjecting the mould to a steam pressure of 2-7 atmospheres in an autoclave for 20 min., removing the mould from the autoclave, and maintaining the pressure for another 20 min. A sheet of rubber cut from an inner tube may be placed in the mould with the blank so as to cover the unornamented side, and overlap the edges.
