Abstract
395,868. Table games. CHESTERFIELD CONTROL CO., Dover, Delaware, U.S.A. June 29, 1932, No. 18367. Convention date, Sept. 12, 1931. [Class 132 (ii).] A table game apparatus for simulating baseball or cricket comprises a pitching or bowling device for projecting a missile towards a batting device which can be operated to project the missile towards a barrier marked at intervals along it with indications of possible results of the projection, and an intercepting device movable under the control of a player to prevent a result from being registered by the missile on the barrier. As shown in Fig. 1 for simulating baseball, the board is marked with a diamond 13 and has at one end a forked pitching device 14 pivoted on a pin 15 so that its direction may be adjusted by means of a handle 17. Within the fork of the pitching device is arranged a projecting lever 18, Fig. 4, retained in a backward position by a catch 21 but moved forward to strike the ball by springs 19 when the catch is released. By pressing on a lever 23 resting on the pivot of the lever 18 the striking velocity of the lever 18 may be controlled. The tip 38 of the fork is inclined as shown so as to trap and retain the ball during the game. A batting device 26 is arranged at the other end of the board and consists of a bent shaft 25, Fig. 5, caused to rotate by a spring 29 when the player liberates a spring-pressed catch 33. Obstructions 35-consisting of inclined plates are arranged around the diamond to entrap the ball after being struck by the batting device 26. Balls passing these obstructions may be trapped beneath an inclined barrier 39 divided into zones of various values. An inclined plate 46 may be slid along the barrier 39 by the player using the projector 14, in an endeavour to entrap the ball. Markers 48 are slidably mounted on rods 47 for scoring purposes. The apparatus may be made in a modified form for simulating cricket.
