Abstract
394,574. Turning. HEINEMANN, W., 25, Friedrichstrasse, St. Georgen, Schwarzwald, Germany. Nov. 22, 1932, No. 33000. [Class 83 (iii).] An arrangement for locking and clamping turret heads and the like tool holders of lathes comprises expanding ring segments arranged around the axis of the turret head between superposed ledges with a complementary segment, which may be adjusted radially, interposed between the ends of the ring segments. A turret 20 having a notched collar 4 secured to its lower face fits over a spigot 21 on a longitudinal slide 40, bevelled ring segments 8 fitting between a flange on the collar and a coverplate 6, similarly bevelled, and being wedged apart by a sliding bolt 9 to clamp the turret down on to the slide, a complementary segment 12, adjusted radially by a set-screw 12a, being interposed between the ends of the segments 8 serving to take up play ; another sliding bolt 15 fits into the notches on the collar 4 to index and lock the turret. Automatic operation upon rearward motion of the slide includes rotation of cam pin 24 through lever 25 contacting stop 26 effecting withdrawal of clamping bolt 9 followed by rotation of levor 29 through contact with stop 31 effecting withdrawal of locking bolt 15, a lever 33 on the slide then engages one of a series of pina 32 arranged around the lower part of the turret and further rearward movement of the slide rotates the turret one step until the lever 29 reaches the end of the abutment 31 when the locking bolt is forced back into the next of the notches 5 by a compression spring ; on forward movement of the slide the lever 25 is thrown over to clamp the turret by striking the abutment 35 the other stops being inoperative during the movement. The locking and clamping arrangement may be applied to a turret on a cross slide in which case the bolts 9, 15 are both controlled by cams on a hand-operated pin.
