[Class 106 (i).] Counters actuated by reciprocating mechanism.-A device for counting the key-taps of a typewriter or like machine comprises an operating-lever b connected to the ratchet-mechanism of the typewriter and carrying two spring-pressed pawls e, f which act alternately and separately to impart a rotation to a toothed wheel h, bearing units numbers 0 .. 9. The axle i of the wheel h carries a worm which drives a worm wheel k attached to a roller o bearing tens numbers, the wheel k and roller o being mounted on the axle n<1> of a revolution counter n including the normal tenstransfer mechanism, and indicating the hundreds and greater numbers. The lever b is pivoted at d and is maintained in its normal position by a spiral spring c. The mechanism is mounted in a casing a<1> formed by uniting two U-shaped plates and a top plate a, and having windows p, q, r. In operation, as the lever b is displaced, the pawl e rotates the roller h through a half tooth, and as the lever returns to its normal position, the pawl f rotates the roller through a further half-tooth, when the next unit appears at the opening q. The backward motion of the pawls is limited by two pins mounted on the casing adjacent the pawls.
