392,741. Electric clocks. BERTSCH, H., 12, Kronenstrasse, Schwenningen-on- Nechar, Wurtemberg, Germany. May 24, 1932, No. 14692. [Class 139.] Striking - mechanism.-In a synchronousmotor clock, the motor which directly drives the motion work also directly drives striking mechanism (or mechanisms) when the latter is released. The pinion M of the motor, which is of a known type of construction, drives (1) gearing I, II, III to the minute arbor MZ, (2) gearing M1, 5 to the quarter locking plate S of the quarter-striking means, wheel 5 being on a rocking arm W2 and (3) gearing M2, 4, N, Sch, to the hour-striking means, wheel 4 being on a rocking arm W1. As the star wheel A on minute arbor MZ, Fig. 3, rotates clockwise, bar K moves counterclockwise and raises a lever H pivoted at H2 so that the lug L on lever H (Fig. 8) moves into the path of a pin S1 on the arm W2. Pin S2 on lever H raises lever H1 (pivoted at H3) which is rigid with locking arm B ; at the same time a second pin S3 on lever H lifts a pawl K1 on to a fixed pin S4. to prevent premature lowering of levers H1, B. The locking arm B releases a pin S5 on arm W2, but the latter is still held since its pin S1 is obstructed by lug L. Subsequently star A permits lever H to fall and remove lug L so that arm W2 is now free to move and enmesh wheel 5, whereby the motor drives the locking plate S. A pin S6 on lever H1 (Fig. 7) coacts with plate S to maintain arm B whilst the pawl K1 falls ; since pin S3 has been lowered. Plate S rotates until the pin S6 falls into a notch of the plate so that lever H1 and arm B fall, the latter engaging pin S5 and disengaging the wheel 5. Hour striking is effected by the high cam part of plate S. This raises lever H1 to such a height that it raises latch F to release rack R and arm W1. The latter is still held, however, by its pin S7 which is obstructed by a lug L1 on lever H1. When, subsequently, pin S6 falls off the high cam of plate S, lug L1 is lowered and arm W1 is free to move and enmesh wheel 4 which is then driven by the motor. The gearing also rotates member Sch to restore the rack R in the usual manner.
