Abstract

390,579. Slat and lath fabrics. INMAN, L., 60, Victoria Road, Victoria Park, Manchester. Jan. 4, 1932, No. 163. [Class 45.] A fabric, simulating reed or cane wicker ware and suitable for making furniture, panelling or other articles is made from sheet material such as mill-board, thin plywood, fibre, metal or leather which is slit longitudinally either continuously, as in Fig. 4, or intermittently, as in Fig. 1, and is corrugated as shown in Fig. 5. The troughs of the corrugations in any one strip register with the crests of the corrugations in the adjacent strips whereby through passages are formed for the reception of transverse members e such as wires, reeds or split canes. The apparatus for slitting and corrugating comprises two coacting series of discs f, g, Fig. 5, on parallel axes, each series having alternate projections and recesses with the projections of each alternate disc of each series registering with the recesses of the other discs of that series. The projections of one series register with the depressions of the other series and apertures f<3>, g<3> are formed in the projections to permit the passage of the transverse members. In order to ensure slitting of the sheet material under the apertures f<3>, g<3>, each aperture may be bridged by a pivoted member k which as the discs rotate may be moved outwardly to permit passage of the transverse members out of the apertures.
