390,171. Optical sound-reproducing apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Sept. 29, 1931, No. 27103. Convention date, Oct. 2, 1930. [Class 40 (ii).] In kinematograph and sound-reproducing apparatus of the type in which a film is fed past an aperture through which a beam of light is projected, the pressure device for guiding the film consists of two spring strips 20 holding the edges of the film against guides 18 and carried by a frame which is movable to allow threading of the film by a lever which acts also to lock the frame in its operative position. The frame consists of two slides 29, 35 which are connected to slide in diverging guides under the action of a lever 30. The upper slide carries two resilient arms 25 formed with slots in which blocks 23 at the ends of the springs 20 are secured by the hooked ends 26 of resilient strips 27. The lower slide carries an arm 36 in which is mounted a shaft 38 carrying two cam members 37 to which the other ends of the springs 20 are secured. The members 37 are adjusted about the shaft 38 to vary the tension of the pressure springs and are preferably provided with cylindrical surfaces 44 to maintain the springs in uniform position relatively to the guides 18 under all conditions of adjustment. In a modification, for adjusting the tension of the strips 20, the ends are connected to sectors movable about a shaft under the action of adjustable helical springs. The invention is described as applied to a sound-reproducing apparatus in which the light aperture 17 is formed in a curved guide plate in front of the photo-electric cell 14. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the mounting of the lamp in the casing by a strap bearing on the cap under the action of a guiding and spring- actuated rod. The position of the lamp is controlled by a disc 5 soldered to the cap and having a recess registering with a pin in the lamp casing. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
