Abstract

390,069. Separating gases by liquefaction. GES. FUR LINDE'S EISMASCHINEN AKT.-GES., Hollriegelskreuth, near Munich, Germany. Sept. 26, 1932, No. 26710. Convention date, Nov. 14, 1931. [Class 8 (ii).] Gases. such as krypton, less volatile than oxygen are extracted from air by subjecting the crude gaseous oxygen evaporating at the base of a rectifying column to washing by a reflux oi liquid oxygen freed from krypton &c. and obtained by the condensation of the gaseous oxygen. The Figure shows apparatus in which the gaseous oxygen rises through tubes 5 cooled by the outflowing gaseous nitrogen ; pure gaseous oxygen passes out at the top of the tubes, while the liquid becomes enriched in krypton &c. and flows back into the vaporizing vessel of the rectifier, the liquid in which is thus enriched and may be drawn off and worked for krypton &c. when sufficiently concentrated. In a modification, the gaseous oxygen passes into a second rectifying column in which a reflux of condensed oxygen is effected, the. krypton &c. accumulating in liquid form at the bottom of this column and being drawn off from the evaporating vessel at the bottom in a gaseous form.
