Abstract

387,585. Furnace electrodes. NORSKE AKTIESELSKAB FOR ELEKTROKEMISK INDUSTRI, 18, Kongensgate, Oslo, Norway. July 2, 1932, No. 18746. Convention date, July 7, 1931. [Class 39 (iii).] The suspension gear for a self-baking electrode is connected directly or indirectly to members baked into the electrode mass. The electrode casing is provided with longitudinal ribs having a portion 6 formed with a serrated edge and embedded in the electrode, and an external portion to which the pivoted suspension arms 10 are bolted. The electrode is supported by a crane or by a fixed suspension frame carried by the platform 4 when it is desired to transfer the arms to a higher point. In a modification the serrations are replaced by rectangular teeth and the arms 10 by clamps gripping the ribs and abutting the frame 8. In this case the electrode may be lowered by loosening the clamps. The width of the internal ribs is not less than one-fifth of their depth. In a further modification, rings are arranged under the projecting ends of rows of radially arranged pins projecting from the electrodes. The lowest ring is supported by the suspension cables. The internal ribs and the radial pins may be used for supplying current. Specifications 227,820, 227,821, and 262,722, [all in Class 39 (iii), Heating by electricity], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes an arrangement, Fig. 7 (Cancelled), wherein the electrode is supported by chains comprising links 23 formed with interengaging hooks 25 and recesses 26. Pins 14 are pushed through the eyes of the links into the soft electrode mass. The supporting frame 27 is provided with arms 28 engaging pins 32, passing through the links and pins. The chains are hooked to arms 34 of a supporting frame 33 when it is desired to raise the frame 27. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
