Abstract

386,674. Observation stations on warships. BARR & STROUD, Ltd. and FRENCH, J. W., Caxton Street, Anniesland, Glasgow. July 16, 1931, No. 20388. [Class 20 (i).] Observation stations 1, 2 are resiliently mounted, for example on warships, to prevent vibrational disturbances of the instruments, and the centre of gravity of the station is disposed approximately in the upper plane of the resilient supports. These may be casings 3 containing self-damping elastic material such as is described in Specification 323,432, [Class 97 (i), Optical systems &c.]. Brackets 4 on the upper structure 1 rest on a resilient casing 3 of annular form, which may rest on a turntable 6, Fig. 1, so that the structure is rotatable, the centre of gravity 11 of the structure approximating to the level of the upper surface of the casing 3. Alternatively, the resilient mounting may be beneath the foundation 5 on which the turntable 6 turns. The resilient mounting may also be in the form of spaced buffers 13, 15, 16 disposed beneath and around the inner and outer peripheries of the frame 14, which carries the structure, Fig. 3, suitable flexible shields 17, 18 being used to prevent the entrance of moisture. In a further form, the resilient supports may be contained in casings disposed at four equally spaced points around the observation station. The instruments within the station have differential gears and known forms of multiplying devices applied thereto for correcting the data for unlevel platform.
