Abstract

Mineral oils are "demineralized and revitalized" by exposure to sunlight, artificial light, or ultra-violet rays, in presence of a catalyst, e.g. aluminium sulphate. Purification by fractionation with steam, and treatment with sulphuric acid, caustic soda, and water may precede the exposure. The Specification also describes the formation of inorganic matter, e.g. mineral oil or mineralized organisms, by exposing organic matter to light in presence of iodine and sodium chloride.
