Abstract

386,253. Preventing fires. VLESSING & CO., 60, Koninginnegracht, The Hague. July 20, 1932, No. 20552. Convention date, July 22, 1931. [Class 47 (ii).] A device for preventing the propagation of flame in conduits for explosive gaseous mixtures comprises two compartments 11, 12 which are connected at their lower ends by a pipe 13 and contain a body of liquid 15, such as mercury. The gas inflow and outflow pipes 17, 19 are connected to the upper ends of the compartments, and porous bodies 14, 16 are fixed in the compartments across said gas pipes. In modifications, the compartment 11 is smaller than the compartment 12, to ensure that the former is completely filled by liquid in the event of a back fire. In another modification, Fig. 4, the smaller compartment 11 is constituted by an extension of the inflow pipe 17.
