Abstract
<PICT:0385280/III/1> Solid ammonium phosphates are obtained from the moist reaction mass, obtained by dissolving phosphate rock in acid, precipitating lime as calcium sulphate and neutralizing with ammonia, by mixing the mass with finished dried material, and drying. Phosphoric acid, obtained by leaching phosphate rock, is treated in vessels a with ammonia in counter-current. The product is mixed in B with so much dry salt as to give a solid non-sticky mass which is supplied to a hot air dryer D, crushed in a disintegrator E, and screened between two screens F1, F2. The material passing only the coarser screen F1 is marketed, while that passing the lower screen is collected at C and returned to the mixer B. According to an example, 32,7 litres of phosphoric acid, specific gravity 1,415, are preheated to 107 DEG C. and neutralized with 12 kgs. of ammonia gas, the temperature first rising to 110 DEG C. and dropping to 78 DEG C. The product is mixed with the dry salt, in the proportion of 2 parts of moist magma to 3 parts of dry salt, and dried with hot air.
