[Class 52 (iii).] In a book rest or stand of the kind comprising a table member adjustable to various inclinations by means of a hinged strut, the table A is supported by a prop B, and a pair of hooks E adapted to be placed on the back of a chair, seat, bed-rail, drawer front, motor-car door, or other support. The strut C is bent to form a pivot c<1> in a bracket bl, and its outer end enters one of a series of holes d<3> in a channel-shaped guide D, by which means the inclination of the table A mav be adjusted. When the device is collapsed, a screw head d4 springs into one of these holes and maintains it in a folded condition. The hooks E are pivotally fitted in brackets e<2>, and their lower ends have stops e<3>. The device is fitted with a book-marker F, a ledge H grooved or fitted with page-holders h<1>, a pencil clip J, and a mirror which may be sunk into the surface of the table A ; alternatively the mirror may be replaced by a sheet of glass covering a photograph. There may also be fitted pivoted strip-like arms M, which may be swung out to enlarge the surface to hold music, newspapers, &c. The device may be hung on a horizontal bar pivoted to a board hung on the back of a chair.
