Abstract

384,244. Type-bar-making machines. TYPOGRAPH GES., 17, Huttenstrasse, Berlin. July 25, 1932, No. 20975. Convention date, May 27. [Class 100 (iii).] Distributing matrices.-In a matrix-setting and type-line casting machine wherein the matrix bars are carried in circulation on wires, and in which the matrix bars after casting are moved up, together with the separate frames and guide wires which formed the casting station, and are adjusted relatively to the distributing wires leading to the inoperative stations, the frames carrying the matrix bars are rotated by means of arms and guide sleeves about vertical guide bars, whereby the frames while being lifted are also turned positively through, for example, 130‹ out of the plane of the casting station towards the distributing stations, which are situated in the vicinity of the inoperative stations. The matrix bars 1 normally hanging in the inoperative stations 1, slide along the guide wires 4 upon release to the wires 5, from whence the set matrix lines are pushed on to wires 6 forming the casting station. The wires 6 are fixed in two separate movable frames 7, each corresponding to one of the symmetrical halves of the machine, and the frames are mounted by arms 8 and guides 9 on bars 10 fixed to the machine frame. Helical grooves 12 in the bars 10 are engaged by projecting screws 13 attached to the guards 9, so that as the frames are lifted, they make a rotation through about 130‹ in passing to the distributing stations 19, as shown in dotted lines. The guide sleeves 9 may be moved by suitably operated cranks, and the screws 13 may be replaced by studs carrying rollers which engage the grooves 12. In a modification, the guide sleeves 9 may carry polygonal extensions which are helically wound round the shafts 10 ; female members, having corresponding openings through which these extensions pass, are fixed to the frame of the machine, so that upward movement of the sleeves and their extensions imparts the same helical movement to the frames 7.
