Abstract

383,044. Potato diggers. LEWIS, J. A., 23, Ampthill Road, Bedford. Oct. 29, 1931, No. 30029. [Class 6 (iii).] A potato digger of the type wherein a soil lifting device such as a share is followed by a rotary disc fitted with tines to throw the potatoes out of the soil to the side whereat there is provided a second rotary disc or spinner with tines to prevent scattering of the crop or its covering with soil has the second rotary disc carried by a lever element which is resiliently supported from the machine frame. The second spinner d is carried by a shaft passing through a bearing c mounted on the lever element b which is itself pivotally mounted on the machine axle a and is resiliently supported at its rear end from the machine frame through an adjustable compression spring g. The spinner is driven by a chain p from the axle driving bevel gear k, j. In a modification the drive is through a shaft carried in a tubular casting forming the lever element.
