Abstract

382,973. Electric and rope railways. POLLAK, J. E., 20, Holborn, London.- (Telephon-Apparat-Fabrik E. Zwietusch & Co., Ges. ; 6, Salzufer, Charlottenburg, Berlin.) Aug. 17, 1931, No. 23175. Addition to 381,642. [Classes 104 (ii) and 104 (iii).] An automatic electrically controlled conveyer system comprises a track divided into sections each of which accommodates not more than one carrier at a time, and each section has, instead of a switch as in the parent Specification, a group of relays energized in combination dependent on the destination of the carrier passing through the section, the designation being passed on to the next section when the carrier leaves a section. The system shown comprises five sections of which sections 2 and 4 have despatching stations. Sections 1 and 5 are incompletely shown. Each section has four designation relays A .. D which have two windings for a non-station section and three windings for a station section, and sections immediately preceding a station have a relay X for discriminating between an empty carrier and a loaded one. It will be assumed that a consignment is to be sent from section 2 to section 4. The designation is keyed on keyboard t20 .. t29, key t24 being the one required for station B, contacts t2 being also operated when any key is pressed. When an empty carrier W1 leaves section 1, relay X in that section will be operated (see subsequent description of section 3), and consequently when contacts e2 (section 2) are operated by the carrier, relay F2 pulls up, locks itself, and starts the elevator motor N2 which places the container in the carrier and in its operated position operates contacts k21, k22, k23. Relay F2 falls back and stops the motor N2, and when the carrier operates the exit contact r2, slow-to-operate relay P2 pulls up, and relays A, B of section 2 operate over windings A23, B23 and the depressed key t24. Relay P2 releases relay X in section 1, and operates relay S2 which starts motor N2 to restore the elevator, and energizes relay N2 to restore the depressed keys, relays A, B having meanwhile locked over windings A22, B22, to a contact of relay P3 in section 3. When the elevator reaches normal, contact v2 opens to release S2 and stop the motor. Relay P2 also operated section relay H2 which, at h23, disconnects the supply to prevent another carrier running through section 2. The carrier runs through section 3 and, on leaving, operates contacts r3 which operate P3 and also energizes the A, B relays of section 3 over their windings A31, B31. Relay P3 operates the section relay H3, releases the A, B relays of section 2 and connects ground to winding X31 of relay X, but as the carrier is loaded (one at least of relays A .. D operated) this ground is also connected to a differential winding X33 and the relay remains inert. When the carrier enters section 4, contacts e4 are operated, and as this is the destination there is a circuit for F4 over back contacts d34, c34, and front contacts b34, a34, relays A, B operated being the code for section 4. Relay F4 starts the elevator motor N4 and the consignment is removed, and when the carrier (now empty) leaves the section, relay P4 pulls up over r4 and releases the A, B relays of section 3. The contacts of the destination relays in each section may be connected to terminals on a panel which can readily be connected to give the desired code.
