Abstract

380,948. Boots and shoes. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.- (Compo Shoe Machinery Corporation ; 565, 5th Avenue, New York, U.S.A.) Sept. 29, 1931, No. 27142. [Class 17 (ii).] Connecting uppers to insoles.-Relates to shoes of the kind wherein the margin of the upper at the sides is secured to the insole by cement, and consists in applying adhesive to one of the side margins of the inner sole and to the lasting allowance of the corresponding side of the upper, lasting this side while forcing the adhesive lasting allowance into contact with the cemented margin of the inner sole, maintaining the parts in lasted position, and, thereafter, sequentially repeating the operations on the other side of the shoe. An inner sole blank slashed on the bottom side of the ball portion, and having a fibre reinforcement glued to the bottom face of the heel end has a small fibre piece 15 stapled to the centre of the heel seat. The insole is then secured to a last and an upper assembled thereover. The fore part is then pulled over and temporarily secured by tacks at the sides and end of the toe. One side of the shoe is then lasted, a quickdrying pyroxylin cement being first applied to the margins which are to contact, and tacks 21 being driven partly in to secure the side in lasted position. The other side is then similarly treated. The ends are then lasted in a bed lasting machine, the heel seat portion being secured by tacks clenched on a plate secured to the last. When the portion has been wiped over, the upper is laid back, the inside layers of the lining and doubler are cut away and cement is applied to the insole and upper margins. The toe is then wiped over and secured by tacks partly driven. When the cement has set, the partly driven tacks are removed and the shoe finished as usual Other means for holding the upper temporarily in lasted position may be substituted for the tacks.
