Abstract

380,522. Television apparatus. MOBSBY, E. G. H., 5, Talbot Houses, Blackheath, London. March 5, 1932, No. 13480. [Class 40 (iii).] Apparatus for varying the intensity of a radiation from a constant source in accordance with variations of an electric current, applicable for recording sound and in television, comprises an achromatic convex lens with axially spherical surfaces, a source of radiation placed at twice the focal distance at one side of the lens to produce an image at the same distance on the other side, and a shutter fixed to a moving coil vibrated electromatically by the varying current positioned at, and movable in the line of, the image. Alternatively, the lens may be replaced by a truly spherical concave mirror in which case the source and image are adjacent to each other at the centre of curvation of the mirror. The image should not subtend an angle of more than two degrees on each side of the optical axis. In a television reproducer, the varying intensity passing the shutter S, Fig. 3, is concentrated by a condenser B upon a system of square holes in a scanning disc D arranged in front of a projection lens P.
