Abstract

380,451. Lining wells. HAMMER, L., 40, Bastiengasse, Vienna. March 24, 1931, No. 19045/32. Convention date, March 25, 1930. Divided on 380,469. [Class 85.] Wells are lined by a device which may follow a boring machine and is adapted to throw or squeeze concrete, asphalt, or the like on to the wall of the well, the concrete or the like being then smoothed by the walls of the device as it moves axially of the well. As shown, the device is lowered down the rope 28 carrying the boring machine and comprises a tank 1 containing cement and sand and an inner tank 3, containing water, the cement and sand passing along guides 4 through openings 5 and past measuring drums 9 driven by motors 8 and being then mixed with water supplied by pump 12 and pipes 14, finally passing into a rapidly rotating drum 17, driven by motors 30 and gearing 31, for delivery through nozzles 19 on to the wall of the well, the nozzles having inset rear edges to spread the cement ; the nozzles 19 may be at successively higher levels. Water is also supplied through nozzles 23, 25, and the outer walls of the drum 17 and an intermediate cylinder 15 smooth the cement and may have rubber, artificial resin, or oil-soaked wood surfaces for lubrication. Excess material falls through openings 21 to a tray 32 sealed against the wall of the well by a tyre 33 and bristles 35 and carrying a rubber or leather band 34. The lining is finally cut to the required inner diameter by means of a frame rotating horizontally and carrying annular files. The motors 8, 30 may be replaced by a single motor which also drives the pump 12. Alternatively, the lining may be applied by means of a mortar container with a loose bottom movable away from the body to leave an annular gap through which the mortar is forced under pressure while the device is fed axially, the container smoothing the lining ; such a device may have electric heaters and be used for applying an asphalt &c. lining, a cold water tank with scraping faces then following the device to cool the lining.
