Abstract

379,997. Egg case fillers. SWIFT, G. W., Bordentown, New Jersey, U.S.A. March 11, 1932, No. 7291. [Class 18.] An egg case filler tray in which groups of egg-holding pockets 2 are formed integrally in a single sheet of paper pulp &c. is arranged so that the tops of the eggs lie below the tops of the pockets which are connected by insular platforms 1 lying in one plane and which are ventilated by recesses 3 formed in the side walls, the recesses of adjacent pockets being connected by downwardly arched walls 4 so that channels extending right across each filler tray are formed, of which the end is closed by walls 6 to form a series of cushions. The wall of each pocket comprises relatively inset portions 7 extending the full length of the pocket and relatively outset portions 8 extending from the walls 4 of the recesses 3 to the bottoms 9 of the pockets to promote ventilation and to cushion the eggs. The bottoms 9 are preferably flat. The case containing the trays consists preferably of end walls 11 connected by spaced slots 12 and may contain cushions at top and bottom each consisting of a flat web 13 and a corrugated web 14. Filler-flats 10 are inserted between the trays.
